Review: McDonald’s The 12 Grilled Chicken

The 12 Chicken Burger from McDonald’s is their new take on premium chicken.  They got rid of the CBO and replaced with the 12, which McDonald’s has tagged “A Fresh New Take on Lunch”.  It comes in crispy or grilled but all the promo pictures and signs show the grilled version front and center, so that is what I tried today.

The name is weird.  Let’s just put that out there.  I asked an employee and they just said they call if the “twelve burger”.  And why just market it at lunch? That’s ridiculous.  It tasted just fine at supper time.

McDonald’s describes it as:

Grilled or crispy seasoned Canadian chicken breast, topped with white processed cheddar cheese, crisp leaf lettuce, fresh tomato, and applewood smoke seasoned sauce, on a sesame and poppy seed glazed bun. It’s a satisfying sandwich you’ll feel good about.

When I first saw it, it reminded me of the semi disappointing Ontario Cottage Chicken from last years flavour passport promotion.  But, I did try that one in the crispy variety so maybe that made a difference.

The sauce is a nice bbq mayo sauce.  The grilled chicken patty almost as big as the bun which is pretty impressive given the poor grilled patties I’ve had in the past.   It was nice and juicy.  The slice of white cheese comes through mild and creamy.  The bun was pretty good.  I think its the same one the Mighty Angus comes on.  Finally it had leaf lettuce and I haven’t enjoyed a grilled McDonald’s chicken sandwich in long time, so this was a pleasant surprise.
I will say it was pretty messy though.  All the slippery layers were just sliding about as you tried to eat it.  This didn’t really bother me, but if you are eating and driving, this may be a sloppy one.  Stay safe out there folks.
Really good grilled chicken sandwich with a weird ass name!  8.0 / 10.
