Reviews: PEI BurgerLove 2016 x5

burger love

Before I start these reviews, I’ve got to say that all burgers we tried were amazing and the hospitality of the people of Charlottetown was incredible!

———————————————————————–

This is the 6th Annual PEI BurgerLove where Prince Edward Island restaurants come up with their best burger that they sell throughout the month of April. They even do a vote for the best burger. It was my 2nd year going to this great festival. Unfortunately, I don’t live in PEI so I can’t really take advantage and try all the burgers; I only get there for one weekend in the month long event. Last year I tried 3 burgers and this year I knew I wanted to do better than that. So this year we did better and tried 5! Because there is so many burgers (73) you really have to sit down and decide on which burgers you want to try. I went this year with my good pal Johnny and our two lovely ladies. Me and Johnny went last year but this was the first time the girls came over with us.

I’m going to review the burgers as I tried them.

First we went to PHINLEY’S DINER & DAIRY BAR. They had the best burger in 2014.

This year their burger was “THE LUMBERJACK

The ingredients were: 2 – 4oz Island Beef Patties, Smoked Ale and Molasses BBQ Sauce, Maple Honey Sour Cream, Sriracha Smoked Bacon, Cheddar Cheese, Shredded Mozzarella, Jalapeno Jack, Crisp Iceburg Lettuce, and Crunchy Onion Crisps on a Steamed Sour Cream Bun, garnished with a Maple Leaf Pop .

Since I made the mistake last year of ordering sides and getting too full. This year I made a point to only order the burger and since my lady friend was there with me, we were able to split each burger in half so we could try more burgers!

I found this was a really tasty burger. I did however find it overly sweet and we left the sucker since it was just too much sweetness for one burger. If you are a fan of burgers and love maple this is the burger for you.

After we left Phinley’s we got parked and setup at our hotel. This way we were downtown and walking distance to all of our other burgers!

Next we went to WATER ST FISH & CHIPS to try their “SAVOURY SAILOR

This was a burger the girls were excited about since it sounded spicy!

The ingredients were: 7oz Island Beef Patty, Fire Roasted Red Pepper and Bourbon Glaze, Sriracha Maple Braised Bacon, Red Chili Mozzarella, Cajun Battered Fried Mushrooms, Onion Confit, and Parmesan and Jalapeno Aioli on a Garlic Buttered Toasted Gourmet Onion Bun, garnished with a House-made Battered Bacon-Wrapped Cream Cheese Bomb

As soon as you bite into this burger you could feel the heat! Their was a good amount of spice but it never got overly hot where I needed to take a drink. I’m not sure what they put in their patty but it was the best one I had while we were there, that is for sure. Also I really enjoy the mushrooms and the sauce. If you are looking for a little heat and a really tasty burger this is the one for you.

After trying 2 burgers we all needed a little break. So we headed over to the THE BRICKHOUSE KITCHEN & BAR and sat at the bar to have some drinks to settle our stomachs!

After a few of their famous Lime Ricky’s it was time to try their burger “THE BRICK-INATOR

It was comprised of: 7oz Island Beef Patty, 4 Strips of Candied Bacon, Gouda Blend Cheese, Butterleaf Lettuce, Onion Rings tossed in Frank’s Hot Powder, and House-made ‘The Brick’ Sauce on a Toasted Herb Cheesy Bun, garnished with Onion Rings and Dill Pickle

This was by far the biggest, beefiest burger we tried! I really enjoyed this burger, the only thing was how greasy it was, my bottom bun was soaked in grease by the end of the burger. If you are looking for something big, a little greasy, but with some great taste this is the burger for you!

We regrouped back at the hotel, took a little breather and then went back out to the bars. W tried one more on Saturday. We headed over to THE OLD TRIANGLE since it was the closest to our hotel, we were a bit drunk and tired, but felt we needed that one last burger before sleep.

We got their just before the kitchen closed and ordered “THE SOUTHERN BELLE

The Ingredients were: 6oz Hickory Seasoned Flame Grilled PEI Beef Patty, Peach and Honey-Rubbed Hickory Smoked Bacon, Pimento Jack Cheese, House-made Garlic Dill Pickles, Hickory Sweet Potato Crisps, Artisan Lettuce Greens, Red Onion, Chipotle Honey Mayo, and Bourbon BBQ Sauce on a Toasted Brioche Bun

This was a really tasty burger! And also the first burger of the day that I felt was something I would order again at a Irish pub. It was simple tasting and had great texture, the chips were a nice crunch! The sauce on this burger was really tasty as well and the bun was probably my favorite out of all the burgers! If you are looking for a burger that is savory and delicious this is the burger I recommend.

Waking up on sunday, I felt really hungover, not from all the drinks but from all the burgers. Burger hangover. Still, the cure for any good hangover is grease. The final stop on our Burger Adventure had the perfect burger for me! MAID MARIANS DINER’s burger “THE CURE” was the answer!

The one is made from: 7oz Seasoned Island Beef Patty, Shredded Cheddar Cheese, Smoked Bacon, Fried Egg, Hollandaise Sauce, and Shredded Fried Potato on a Grilled Potato Scallion Bun

This was the heaviest burger out of all of them that is for sure! I ate this full burger and I wasn’t hungry again ’til supper, completely skipped lunch! Even though it was really heavy it was super tasty as well. I really enjoyed the shredded fried potato and the friend egg. I wish I could have had a little more Hollandaise sauce! So if you are there and you are looking for the perfect breakfast burger this is your answer!  Maybe get extra sauce.

It was a great trip and I’m already excited for next year!

Finally, here’s my ranking of the burgers I tried (remember, they were all delicious):

  1. The Southern Belle
  2. Savoury Sailor
  3. The Cure
  4. The Brick-Inator
  5. The Lumberjack

If you are burger lover like myself, you need to get over to PEI for this event, so many great burgers in a small area!
