Review: Wendy’s Jalapeño Fresco Spicy Chicken Sandwich

Fresco Top Bun

Looks innocent enough

The name of this sandwich, the Jalapeño Fresco Spicy Chicken Sandwich,  isn’t as intimidating as it’s running mate, the Ghost Pepper Fries, two of three new LTO’s from Wendy’s that also include the Ghost Pepper Poutine.  I sampled  Jalapeño Fresco Spicy Chicken Sandwich with a side of Ghost Pepper Fries, becuase I can’t resist somethign with cheesesauce when I have the choice.

Fresco Open Face

Lots of diced Jalapeños

The Fresco Chicken Sandwish is topped with jalapeños, ghost pepper sauce, sliced red onions, cheese on a spicy crispy chicken patty, all nestled between a red jalapeño bun.

Overall I thought it was a good sandwich. It has a lot of texture. But it wasn’t nearly as hot as it could have been for containing ghost peppers.  I think most of the heat came from the fresh diced jalapeño peppers and the spicy chicken patty. The red onions would occasionally offer a nice crispy juicy bit. The cheese got lost in all the strong flavours.  The sandwich didn’t have a large range of diverse flavours, but it was really good.  I wouldn’t have wanted it any spicier, but I only have a medium spice tolerance.  It was a little too spicy for Mark, and hardly spicy to my spice head friend Earl.
